Council Boss Promises Good Governance, Development

Chairman, Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr. Demola Doherty, has assured residents of the area of improved infrastructure development.

He made the promise recently, while inaugurating the Asset Management and Local FADAMA Development Committee.

Doherty said the committee, which will work in conjunction with Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, is geared towards eradicating poverty. It will also help to increase the council’s internally generated revenue and assist small and medium scale farmers to access financial loans to grow their businesses.

“In the face of shrinking internally generated revenue and the enormous cost of governance, there is the need to generate ideas on how to improve on revenue inflow.

“This administration is poised to ensure good governance and infrastructure development in the face of dwindling revenue from the federation account. We are posed at making a difference by establishing an event centre and a modern marriage registry.

“In compliance with the state government’s resolve to eradicate street parties, the event centre will cater for the social needs of our people by providing comfortable, spacious, affordable and secure environment for social functions in the community,” Doherty said.

The facility, according to him, will include a modern marriage registry capable of sitting 300 guests, party venues that can seat 1,200 people with customised stage, changing rooms, ample parking space and a 30 KVA generator to provide alternative electric supply.

The chairman said although the council is classified as semi-urban, the residents constitute majority of the working class in Ikeja and its environs, making 70 per cent of them literate and urbanised, hence the need for more improved infrastructure facilities in the area.
