Ekiti To Pay Enhanced Salary
The strike embarked upon by the three industrial unions at the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, has been called-off.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision of the unions to suspend the strike followed the decision of the State Government to accede to their demands.
The unions went on strike to demand for consolidated enhanced salary package and monetisation arrears.
The three unions are the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Colleges of Education Non-Academic Staff Union and the Senior Staff Association of Colleges of Education.
The unions had been on strike since the middle of February.
Announcing the suspension of the strike on Thursday in Ikere-Ekiti, Chairman, Senior Staff Association of Colleges of Education of the institution, Mr. Charles Egunjobi, commended Gov. Kayode Fayemi for his action.
Egunjobi, who was addressing newsmen, said the part-payment of the monetisation arrears and approval for the enhanced consolidated salary to workers would promote industrial peace in the school.
He called on members of staff to rededicate themselves to their duties to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government to move the institution forward.
NAN recalls that the State Government had some weeks ago, through the Secretary to the Government, Dr Ganiyu Owolabi, described the industrial action by the unions as needless.
