Estate Agent Jumps Bail
A Somolu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos has remanded an estate agent, Nike Freeman, in Ikoyi Prison for jumping bail.
She is to remain behind bars till April 1 when the trial will continue.
Freeman, 54, is facing one-count charge of jumping bail to which she, however, pleaded not guilty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Freeman was first arraigned on Nov. 7, 2008 for fraud and obtaining money by false pretence.
She was granted bail, but later absconded in 2008.
She was, however, re-arrested recently and brought to court on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, had told the court that the accused allegedly collected large sums of money from different people under the pretext of providing tenement apartments for them.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 127 of the Criminal Code Act, Laws of Lagos State.
The Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi adjourned the case till April 1 for further hearing.
