Corruption Hinders Development
Head of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Samson Iroka,  has identified corruption as the major impediment to Nigeria’s progress.
Iroka revealed this during the presentation of ICPC-NAVC certificates and awards to some distinguished Nigerians who have volunteered to participate in the agency’s fight against corruption in Lagos State.
Iroka said for the agency to succeed in its quest to eradicate corruption in Nigeria, there is need to engage every Nigerians that has passion for fighting corruption.
“This is why the National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps (NAVC) was created. NAVC is a platform designed by the ICPC to engage any Nigerian that is passionate about fighting corruption in every nook and crannies of the country. To volunteer is not easy because you must be a role model and do something differently,†he disclosed.
He encouraged volunteers to be role models wherever they find themselves, saying: ”ICPC wants you to propel the anti corruption crusade in Lagos State and in Nigeria as a whole by being at the forefront of the fight.”
Ambassador Akin Badejo, the NAVC co-ordinator, Lagos State chapter, said NAVC and other volunteers in Lagos were ready to stand out against corruptions, adding that the people should be vigilant in the forthcoming election to ensure that their votes count.
“The time has come, as ordained by God, as the people’s army and the voice of the voiceless, that you must resist, reject and report rigging and multiple voting. They are all elements of corruption which must be totally deleted from our dear country,” he stated.
Badejo advised youths to refrain from any act of violence during the coming election and not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs.
