Businessman Faces Criminal Charges

A Lagos businessman, Ambrose Chukwunoye, 52, has been arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate court on a four-count criminal charge of conspiracy, wilful destruction of property and manner likely to cause breach of public peace.

In a criminal charge number B/12/2011 filed before the court by Susan Ezema, ASP, a police prosecuting counsel from Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, it was alleged that Ambrose Chukwunoye and others at large, on 5 March, 2010 along Community Road, Ijegun-Imore, Lagos, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace.

It was further alleged that Ambrose Chukwunoye, same time and place, conspired with others at large to wilfully and unlawfully destroyed the property of one Prince Dele Ajiboye worth abut N20 million.

The offences alleged to have been committed by the accused businessman are contrary to Sections 517, 249 (d) and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap C 17 Laws of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003 and punishable under the same law.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the counts and was consequently granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum and who must produce three years tax clearance.

The presiding magistrate adjourned till April 4 this year, when the trial of the accused will commence.

However, one of the accused, Chidi Chukwunoye, who was alleged to have conspired with Ambrose to destroy the property of Prince Dele Ajiboye worth N20 million, had earlier been arraigned before the court on 24 June, 2010 and he is currently on bail.
