SSS Arraigns Lawyer Over Inflammatory Statement Against Jonathan
A legal practitioner believed to be sympathetic to the embattled governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Akwa Ibom state, Mr. John Akpanudoedehe who was recently docked over the political crisis which rocked Ikot Ekpene last Tuesday, has been arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate Court by the State Security Services, SSS.
Following alleged inflammatory statements made on a live television programme in Lagos, the lawyer, Mr. Francis Affange was arraigned by the State Security Service, on a two count charge for attempting to cause disaffection against President Jonathan. In the charge preferred against Mr. Affanga, he was accused of expressing feelings of disaffection against the President of the federal Republic of Nigeria and making false statement against the person of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The offence which was allegedly committed last Friday, the 25th of March was said to have contravened sections 416 and 393 of the penal code law. The lawyer however pleaded not guilty to the two count charge.
The prosecution informed the court that the State Security Service has concluded investigations into the matter and is ready to open their case while praying that the accused be remanded in their custody till the next adjourned date.
While acquiescing to the security agency’s request, Magistrate Oyewumi Oyebola ordered that the accused person be allowed access to his counsel pending when a formal bail application can be made on his behalf.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to Tuesday 5th April for hearing.
