Electricians Endorse Jonathan

The Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) on Wednesday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP in the presidential contest slated for April 9.

Mr. Mark Gimba, LECAN National Vice President, who disclosed the body’s stance in Jos, said that it had also endorsed Governor Jonah Jang for Plateau Governorship.

“LECAN is endorsing Jonathan to enable him complete the good work

he has started in the power sector,” told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN).

“Immediately Jonathan became President, he constituted a committee to study the power sector to enable him know the true situation; after their assessment, the committee recommended privatization as the panacea for the power problem.

“Unlike other government policies, we have seen the genuine commitment on the part of this administration in bringing a lasting solution to the epileptic power supply just like the telecommunication sector,” he said.

“Aside the power sector, the Goodluck administration has displayed the willingness to turn around the fortunes of Nigerians by giving attention to every sector of the economy which was not the case with past governments.”

He said that since the inception of the association in 1963, Jonathan was the first to host its national leaders at the State House in Abuja to discuss the modalities towards improving power supply.

“The meeting was presided over by the Minister of State, and we gave our suggestions ranging from power generation, distribution, and ways to check vandalisation of PHCN installations,” he said.

Gimba, who is also the Chairman, LECAN North Eastern Zone, comprising of Plateau, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba States , said that the association was behind Jang because of his numerous achievement in his first term.

“Just like the Federal Government, The Plateau Government also has a deliberate policy to improve power supply in State.

“LECAN members are included in the committee that was set up by Government to carry out a feasibility study for an independent power plant in Plateau and I am sure something positive will come out of the efforts soon,” he explained.

Gimba, however, said that association’s members in the state were worried over the crisis that had engulfed Jos and environs and promised to support all efforts toward permanent peace.
