Society Campaign For Environmental Preservation
The Justice for Peace Development Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Church says it has stepped up its enlightenment campaign for the preservation of the environment as its Lenten season programme.The JDPC is a society within the Catholic Church committed to reaching out to the less privileged in the society through its charitable activities.
The Vicar-General of the Kaduna Archdiocese, Monsignor Matthew Kukah, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kaduna.Kukah said that the campaign was part of efforts by the JDPC to preserve the natural habitat and that the programme would be carried out throughout the parishes in Kaduna within the period. The cleric expressed regret that the pollution of the environment had impacted negatively on the health of the people.
He said that during the campaign, the people would be enlightened on the benefits of preserving the environment and also encouraged to replace each tree felled.Kukah underscored the fact that God created the environment to be preserved for the overall well-being of the human race.
