Lagos Distributes 120 Transformers To Rural Communities

The Lagos State government yesterday handed over 120 transformers to the 40 constituencies in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, to complement the existing ones.

This is in its effort to further secure the lives and properties of citizens of the state as well as boost electricity.

Handing over the transformers to one of the representatives of the communities Hon. Lola Akande a member of the State House of Assembly representing Ikeja II, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Prince Lanre Balogun, disclosed that the state government took the issue of security very seriously.

He noted that hoodlum and men of the underworld thrived more in the night, adding that this was what informed the decision of government to light up the whole state to discourage crime.

Balogun said the provision of light in any community could not be over-emphasised as it would create more jobs for artisans like hairdressers, barbers and welders among others and enhanced their business, thereby enriching their lives and reducing crime.

While reiterating the fact that the transformers were produced locally, thereby creating jobs for the people, he said the governor had also gone further by not just providing the transformers but also putting adequate machinery in place to install and connect the people to national grid through the Power Holding Company of Nigeria.

Responding, Akande said the distribution of the transformers was as a result of their request to the governor that their people needed light.

She thanked Governor Babatunde Fashola for fulfilling his promise to serve at the inception of his administration and for not failing to serve the people that voted him in.
