Election: Youth Group Sues For Peace
Ayouth socio-political group, the Youth Movement for Better Nigeria (YMBN) has called on politicians not to heat up the polity at this time so as to avoid bloodletting and to save the country from experiencing what is going on in the Arab countries.
The group also called for the release of all political detainees across the country.
Comrade Adegoke Folarin, the national convener of the group who led his members to the corporate head office of Independent Communication Network Limited (ICNL), publishers of TheNEWS/P.M.NEWS, on Thursday, made the appeal.
Folarin tasked all politicians to ensure that the elections are conducted without violence, while also calling on the youths across the country to come out and participate in the electioneering process, and to desist from any act of election violence.
Folarin said, ‘‘we want a free and fair election, we do not want any violence, we want the youth to come out to perform their civicright. They should come out and vote and defend their votes.
‘‘We are using this medium to appeal to the government that all the political detainees be released so that we can have free and fair election.’’
Another member of the group, Comrade Wale Olagunju, who echoed the group’s convener’s words, said youths should stay away from thuggery and all forms of violence during and after the elections and should not allow themselves to be used by any politician.
He particularly called for the released of Alhaji Tairu Farombi a.k.a. Alado, whom he said was arrested by the government’s security agents about three days ago and other political detainees across the country.
