Jega Must Go –NANS
Following the cancellation of Saturday’s National Assembly election, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos State branch, has urged the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to resign his appointment without further delay.
Comrade Eniola Opeyemi, the association’s coordinator for Zone D, said the pronouncement of the INEC boss on the election shows that he is not competent to organise a free and fair election and no miracle should be expected from him.
“We do not believe that INEC could perform any miracle from the report we heard that there was late arrival of election materials and accreditation did not commence in some centres not until 10.30 a.m., while there were lots of complaints.
“Because of all these and coupled with the cancellation and postponement of the election, we think he should resign without further delay,†NANS posited.
Balogun Omomayowa, president of the Students’ Union Government of the institution, described the development as unfair and frustrating, while advising INEC to extend election time instead of postponing it.
