Ibeshe Gets Solar Powered Water System

he Lagos State Government has handed over two solar powered modified ‘Type A’ water project to Ibeshe community in Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

This is in a bid to eradicate water borne diseases and provide potable water for the people of Lagos and rural dwellers in particular.

Handing over the project, Commissioner for Rural Development, Prince Lanre Balogun said the administration, having taken cognizance of the problem of electricity in the area, directed that the people should be supplied with a water system that would serve them at minimal cost and be of World Health Organisation standard and thus the solar water project.

“The project, apart from not running on power generated by PHCN, does not also need to be powered by generator. Water from project has been certified by World Health Organisation as being of the standard that is obtainable anywhere in the world and therefore safe for consumption.”

Balogun enjoined the community to take care of the projects properly as it could serve them conveniently for more than 25 years without any major repair, while urging them to call the ministry anytime they had a problem with the water system so that necessary repairs could be effected.

Director, Rural Water and Sanitation in the Ministry Engr. Rashid Ayeni disclosed that the water project has a capacity for 9,000 litres per circle which gives a total of 18,000 litres at a pump and could be fetched twice daily or more.

He also said that a training programme has been put in place for the people on how to operate the system, adding that the water project has six fetching points each and easy accessibility, while the water has also been channeled to the two schools in the community.
