Ex-LG Boss, 2 Others Die In Boat Mishap

The former chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Mufutau Rufai popularly called Mufti and two others have died in a boat mishap on Epe lagoon.

Though details of the incident were still sketchy as at the time of writing this report, a reliable police source attached to Epe Marine, Police Division, Epe, Lagos told P.M.NEWS that Mufti lost his life when the boat he boarded with ten other people from Eribo Village to Epe town, capisized in the middle of the lagoon at about 17.00 hours.

They were said to be on election duty when the incident happened.

The source said while eight of the victims were successfully rescued by fishermen, the former local government boss and two others including the driver of the ill-fated boat could not be found as at Saturday when they drowned.

The source further told P.M.NEWS that the corpse of Mufti and another victim were found by divers yesterday morning floating. They were brought to the shore.

The former local government boss, according to the source, has been buried according to Islamic rites.

The incident is currently being investigated by the police at Epe Police Division.
