Policeman’s Son Remanded For Murder
An 18-year old cyber café operator, who is also the son of a police inspector, Augustine Peter Dike, has been arrested by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, for the murder of Emmanuel Achie, his friend.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspect hit Achie, son of another policeman with a pestle during a fight at Falomo Police Barracks, Ikoyi, and this led to his death.
Dike was later arraigned before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on one-count charge of murder, an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The charge reads: “That you, Augustine Peter Dike, on 12 March, 2011, at Falomo Police Barracks, Ikoyi, Lagos, did unlawfully kill one Emmanuel Achie by hitting him with a mortar pestle and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
Dike pleaded not guilty but his plea was not taken.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Abolarinwa ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The case has been adjourned till 9 May, 2011.
