Student Jailed For Stealing Towels

A 20-year-old student, Aisha Awwal, was on Monday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Abuja Magistrate’s Court for stealing two towels belonging to Sheraton Hotels, Abuja.

Police Prosecutor Abdullahi Adamu told the court that Ali Zakari, a security guard at the hotel, reported the incident at the Wuse Police Station on April 8.

Adamu said that Awwal, a resident of 22, Gimbiya Street, Garki II, was on her way out of Sheraton Hotels at about 6 a.m., when on a routine search, Zakari discovered the two towels in her handbag.

He said that during police investigation, Awwal confessed that she stole the towels from room 1036, “where she met with a man.”

Awwal pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.

Magistrate Aminu Eri sentenced her to one month imprisonment with an option to pay a fine of N200.
