Bus Driver Arraigned For Stealing N850,000 Car

For allegedly stealing an unregistered Nissan Maxima saloon car, a commercial bus driver, Ikechukwu Onuorah was yesterday charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Onuorah, 35, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count-charge of stealing preferred against him.

The prosecution said the accused stole the car, property of Mr Onyebuchi Ogbunga, valued at N850, 000.

Corporal John Iberedem, told the court that the driver had sometime in Oct. 2010 at about 10.30 a.m. at FESTAC Town, Lagos, stole the car from where it was parked at the residence of the owner.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 390 of Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment in Lagos State and means of livelihood.

The case was adjourned to April 29 for further hearing.
