Sule Rates Nigerian Athletes High

Nigerian athletes in the long and triple jump events have been given pass mark because of their outstanding performances at the major championships organised by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria recently.

Oluyomi Sule, a national long jump coach, in a chat with nigeriasportnews.org, said that if given the necessary time frame and proper training, sky will be the limit of the athletes. He said they can compete with their counterparts anywhere they meet in international tournaments.

“To be fair to Nigerians, we have many good jumpers and athletes that can bring glory to this country from international championships.

“Most of our athletes are good enough to compete with their counterparts in international tourneys. What they need are encouragement and motivation from the sports federation.

“If we look at year 2010, we will discover that our national jumpers performed well in all the international championships they participated in. So, you will agree with me that if they can be supported by the relevant authorities, they will go far in their respective careers,” he said.

Sule stressed that the athletes need to be motivated if they want them to excel in the forthcoming All Africa Games and Olympic Games.

“During the Africa Championship in Kenya, Blessing Okagbare won gold medal in the long jump event, while Nkeiruka Domike won silver in the triple jump.

“Also, Tosin Oke won gold medals both in Kenya and at the Commowealth Games in India. These showed that Nigeria has the potentials to rule the world in track event,” he said.
