Salesgirl, Lover Docked For Theft

Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, South-West Nigeria have arraigned two lovers, Anu Afuye and Fatai Bakare before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for theft.

It was gathered that Anu Afuye, a sales representative at Daynat Nigeria Limited on 24 March, 2011 at 29, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos stole N1.8m and gave it to her boyfriend, Fatai Bakare.

They were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony and stealing, offences punishable under Sections 516, 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count two of the charge reads: “That you, Anu Afuye, Fatai Bakare and others still at large on 24 March, 2011 at 29, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did steal the sum of N1.8m property of Daynat Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

Count three reads: “That you, Fatai Bakare on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did receive the sum of N1.7m from Anu Afuye, property of Daynat Nigeria Limited, knowing same to have been stolen and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

Fatai and Anu were admitted on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each.

The presiding magistrate, Chief Magistrate P.A. Ojo ordered that the addresses of the sureties, means of livelihood and evidence of payment of tax to the Lagos State must be verified.

The case has been adjourned till 3 June, 2011.
