Poly Graduate Seeks Dissolution Of Marriage
A Lagos State polytechnic graduate, Mrs. Sobanle Abimbola has dragged her husband, Mr. Adewale Agbokere, a tanker driver before the Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria seeking the dissolution of the marriage due to incessant beating and molestation.
Abimbola, in her petition stated: “I was in school in Ibadan when I got pregnant for him.
“He promised to allow me continue my education after delivery and I moved to Lagos in 1999 to join him. We did traditional introduction early in 2000.
“When my baby was nine-month old, I told him I want to go back to school. This resulted in a quarrel be cause he did not want me to continue my education. Eventually, I got admission into the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH.
“I used his name as my surname. During the period I was in school, he was always troubling. He will beat me up whenever he sees me with a male friend. There was a time he attacked me and I fainted.
“The reason he gave for his action was that he was feeling insecured about my educational advancement.
“In 2004, he told me he was no longer interested in the relationship and that I should leave his house.
“I went with my uncle to pack my belongings from his house.”
Abimbola accused the defendant of keeping custody of their only child and that she want the dissolution of their 11- year old marriage due to irreconcilable differences.
“He also prevented me from seeing my son. He kept on changing his school.
“He is also rude to my parents,” she added.
In his defence, the respondent, Agbokere denied the allegations.
He told the court that he established a ‘pure water’ company for her so that she could use the proceeds to pay her school fees and manage herself while in school.
â€She complained to me that my elder sister was maltreating her while she was living with her. This made me to rent an apartment for her.
“When I went to visit my wife in school, I did not meet her in her apartment. She returned home late at night and when I inquired to know where she went to, she lied to me that she was in her department in school, not knowing that I have already been there. I slapped her for the first time since I met her,†he narrated.
He also said that he was not averred to the dissolution of the marriage.
