Man Tears Sister’s Clothes With Knife

The police in Lagos on Monday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Michael Okorie, before an Apapa Senior Magistrate’s Court for allegedly tearing his sister’s clothes worth N200,000 with knife.

Okorie is standing trial before Magistrate Amos Adeyemi on a four-count charge of assault, life threatening, malicious damage and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Uche Kalu, told the court that the accused, who is a brother to the victim, Mrs. Evelyn Okorie, allegedly assaulted her and used knife to tear her clothes worth N200,000.

He said that the accused also threatened her sister’s life with a knife during a misunderstanding.

Kalu said that the accused committed the offence on April 12, at 82/96 Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos at about 6 p.m.

The prosecutor said that Okorie also on same day, time and place stole N50,000 belonging to her sister.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused had contravened Sections 86, 351, 390 (9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused pleaded guilty to count 3 and not guilty to count 1, 2 and 4 and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adeyemi adjourned the case till May 5 for facts and sentence and May 27 for further hearing on count 1, 2 and 4.
