Lagos-based PR and communications firm, NABSolute Media, held the inaugural session of its youth-focused digital skills acquisition scheme, ‘The Pass it On Program,’ in the coastal city, Port Harcourt, over the last weekend.
The Pass It On Program is a non-profit skill-sharing initiative through which the agency is organizing free foundational classes across multiple disciplines including digital marketing, data analysis, creative design, programming and web development primarily for teenagers and young adults in both rural and suburban communities who are keen on succeeding in the modern world and digital economy.
The Saturday, June 26 class was an introductory module to the rudiments of digital marketing and was led by NABSolute Media founder, Victor Okpala.
The course mixed conversational-type discussions on subjects like the channels of digital marketing and researching a market position with intermittent quizzes to test participants’ grasp of the broader topic.
In a sign of the program’s immediate impact, the inaugural class was attended by 50 people with 80% being teenagers and young adults between the ages of 13 – 26 while other participants were about 27-year-old and above.
Also, at the end of the class, participants were presented with certificates of enlightenment.
One of the most pertinent points raised by Okpala is the importance for students to embrace inbound marketing tactics by identifying the pain-points of customers and offering to serve. In his words, the best digital strategies offer upfront value and prioritize service over sales.

Speaking on the significance of the class, Victor Okpala explains: “Many of the students were teenagers who, until that day, were only familiar with career paths in banking, medicine and engineering in the conventional sense and young adults who are at crossroads, deliberating how to participate in the digital economy.
“For these people, the class doesn’t just offer a perspective that’ll prepare them for today’s modern world and demands of the marketplace, it also serves as a first-hand tool of empowerment with practical exercises that democratizes access to knowledge and gets their foot in the door.”
As part of its core plans, the Pass It On Program will reward students who display remarkable potential with work tools like laptops and internship opportunities with organizations that are leaders in their field of interest.
As the program grows, there are plans to secure strategic partnerships with academic institutions and a vast array of platforms to make foundational lessons on modern skills available to more young people.
Saturday attendants were also advised on further steps to take in order to get more certifications and increase their knowledge of digital marketing, getting free lessons on foundational knowledge sources like the Hubspot Academy and Google Digital Skills, and landing roadmaps to landing their first employment as digital marketers.
