Market Fire Victims Send SOS To Lagos Govt
Following the fire incident that razed Idera Market, Obadore, in Igando/Ikotun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, after a petrol tanker lost control, fell and burst into flames about two years ago, traders in the market have appealed to the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola for assistance.
Narrating their ordeal since the fire incident, the traders told Lagos Bulletin that life has not been easy for them as they lost all their wares and goods to the inferno.
Alhaji Noah Owoseni, the Babaloja-General (market leader) of Igando/Ikotun Local Council Development Area, who spoke on the behalf of the victims, said “our market was gutted by fire about two years ago when a petrol tanker lost control and fell, causing the fire that consumed shops and stalls in the market and goods worth million of naira destroyed, while two lives were also lost.
“We immediately wrote to the governor, the council chairman, the market board and other concerned authorities, but till today, we are still expecting their responses.
“We are now appealing to the governor to take a look at our plight and come to our aid as all that we have laboured for is gone in the inferno and we have no other person to turn to except God and our listening governor, to start life afresh.â€
Another trader in the market, whose two shops were razed, Mrs. Enitan Herper, said she lost goods worth N2.3 million to the fire and that since then, life has not been the same for her again.
Helper equally appealed the state government to assist her and other victims so that they could continue with life.
“I am left with nothing, I lost two shops with goods worth N2.3 million and since then, I have not been myself again.
“I am appealing to the governor to come to my aid and other affected traders so that we could go back to our businesses.â€
Other affected traders were of the same opinion when contacted.
