Give Us Commissioner, Group Urges Tinubu
Association of Mainland Constituents, a sociopolitical pressure group in the Lagos Mainland/Yaba axis, has commended the leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose inspirational and dynamic leadership, they said, had contributed to the impressive showings of the ACN in the South West including Lagos, Edo, Ekiti Osun and the hitherto PDP-controlled governments of Oyo and Ogun states.
The development, according to it, was most welcome as it has contributed to no mean measure, in reintegrating the old Western Region into the progressive fold with which it had hitherto been associated.
The association, in a statement signed by its president, Mr. Bolaji Akinyemi, however, appealed to the ACN leader to bring his good position to bear in ensuring that Lagos Mainland/Yaba is accorded its due and fair share in the allotment of appointments into higher echelon of governance across the various local governments in the state.
It noted that in the past 12 years of the current democratic dispensation, not a single commissioner had emerged from the Mainland/Yaba axis, adding that the only offer that came its way was the appointment of the late Bode Thomas as Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Unfortunately, however, the group said that following his untimely death, the slot, rather be extended to another person in the Mainland, it was withdrawn entirely.
According to the group, even the present highly progressive government of Babatunde Fashola did not produce a commissioner or special adviser from the Mainland, a situation it said spells a lamentable irony considering the strategic placing of the Mainland/Yaba axis in the heart of Lagos metropolis.
“While we pledge our continued unalloyed support for the good cause you symbolise towards the evolution of an egalitarian order, we crave your kind indulgence to restate our request that you bring your reputed sense of fair consideration to bear in addressing our request as this will be in keeping with the ideal of equity, fair play and living up to the democratic tradition for which our great party, ACN, is highly repute,†the group pleaded.
