Gunmen Attack Gov’s Aide, Kills Teenager
One person was killed after suspected Boko Haram members attacked Alhaji Umaru Shehu, Deputy Chief Security Officer to Gov. Ali Modu Sheriff, on Thursday in Maiduguri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered from witnesses that the gunmen opened fire on Shehu on his way out of his Bulumkutu residence in Maiduguri at about 7 a.m.
“The gunmen had laid ambush at the gate of the Bulumkutu residence of Shehu who is the Deputy Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the governor.
“They immediately opened fire at his car as he was about leaving the house,†a witness, Malam Lawal Almajiri, said.
Almajiri, however, noted that the officer was lucky to have survived the attack.
“His upper chest and his fingers were badly damaged by the assailants spraying his car with bullets,†he said.
Almajiri also said one of the teenagers in the compound, who chased the fleeing gunmen, was killed.
“Some of the boys residing in the compound tried to chase the killers and the gunmen opened fire on them.
“One of them died instantly while another was seriously injured,†he said.
Meanwhile, Shehu and the unidentified injured teenager have been admitted at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Malam Usman Baba, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, confirmed the incident but declined to give details.
