NOC Prepares For Olympic Day Events

Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, says the preparation to ensure a hitch-free Olympic Day celebration is ongoing.

Tony Ubani, Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the NOC said the Olympic Day, which will hold in the 36 states of the federation, will be held on 25 June. He noted that to ensure a memorable event, states have been requested to register in time for the event meant to highlight the benefits of physical activity for young people and allow them to learn about the values of the Olympics and put them into practice in their everyday life.

“Olympic Day is unlike any other national celebration or public holiday. The day is set aside for everyone to come together and learn about Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Majority of states in Nigeria take advantage of this occasion to share the Olympic spirit with people of all ages,” said Ubani.

“In order to allow people of all age groups to take part in the celebration, host states are expected to break down the marathon which is part of the celebration in stages of 3km, 6km and 10km to accommondate everybody.

“The Olympic Day event is not a competition to win prizes, but to serve as a reminder that exercise holds a lot of promises in helping mankind to stay healthy through sports as a way of life.

“Participating states are expected to feature jogging and aerobics, cultural display and demonstration of some sports to commemorate the event,” said Ubani.
