Victims of police brutality who are waiting to be compensated after their trial at the state judicial panel on Monday protested at Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The victims protested over the non-payment of compensation awarded to them by the judicial panel led by Justice Christopher Awubra.

They called on the state governor, Darius Ishaku to provide funds for the panel so it can complete its report and submit it to the National Economic Council (NEC).

Protesters carried placards with different inscriptions, matched through Barde Way to the government House as they distorted business and vehicular activities along the road.

The protest follows a report on news platforms that the state government failed to support the panel with enough funding to produce its final report.

A source close to the panel also claimed that panelists’ allowance was only approved for one month despite sitting for six months (Nov2020-May 2021).

The source added that panel members including the chairman used their money in funding the sittings.

However, the lack of fund has stopped the panel from being able to submit its report to the NEC.
