NOA Underscores Importance Of Environmental Sanitation

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to participate actively in environmental sanitation activities to curb water borne diseases in the country.

Hajiya Jummai Bello, the NOA Director in Bauchi State, made the call in a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Information and Publication, Malam Danmusa Muhammad, in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Bello said the call became necessary due to the importance of environmental sanitation to the health, social, economic and moral well-being of the people.

She added that his call was also based on the prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) that there would be heavy rainfall in the country this year and its implication to the environment.

She stressed the need for the people to clean their drainage systems to avoid flooding and the outbreak of water-related diseases.

“I want to therefore, call on the general public to support and cooperate with the government and agencies at all levels, to take precautions to avert any negative consequences that might arise during the rainy season.

“The only way to do that is for the people to clean up their drainage systems and ensure good and healthy environment,” she added.

The director promised that NOA would liaise with other relevant agencies in the state for a joint enlightenment campaign, to sensitize the public on the dangers of flooding and associated problems.

She appealed to the state government and the 20 local governments in the state to support the agency in realising its goal of ensuring a clean and healthy environment in the state.
