Dispatch Rider Arraigned Over Fraud
A dispatch rider, Innocent Eneji, 30, has been arraigned before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ogudu, Ojota, Lagos for stealing.
The police prosecutor, Eyo Owai, in the two-count charge, stated that the accused was arrested at 5, llaje Street, Mile 12, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria after collecting N1,940,000 from a complainant, Mr. Monday on the pretence of sending it to a girl the latter was interested in marrying.
The defendant told the court that he did not collect any money from Monday.
He explained that his problem with him started when Monday approached him and told him that he was in love with his younger sister.
The complainant, it was gathered, started sending money through the accused to the lady.
After some time he did not hear from her and was later told that she had travelled out of the country.
The complainant got annoyed and reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.
The two-count charge is punishable under Sections 419 and 390 (9) 0f the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Bola F. Willams admitted him on bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a blood relation of the accused.
He must also show evidence of paying tax to the Lagos State government.
The matter has been adjourned till 10 June, 2011 for mention.
