At least one person was killed by the Ugandan police after a crowd in
Kampala, the capital, attacked a car carrying Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan had attended President Yoweri Museveni’s inauguration, a government spokesman said.

“The car belonging to Goodluck Jonathan was stoned by mobs,” said Fred Opolot, director of the government media center. “The security shot around the area, and one person was shot dead.”

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been President of Uganda since 26 January 1986.

He is regarded by many Ugandans as a dictator who should not be endorsed by world leaders.

Museveni abolished presidential term limits before the 2006 elections. His harassment of democratic opposition has attracted concern from domestic commentators and the international community.

He was involved in the war that deposed Idi Amin Dada, ending his rule in 1979, and in the rebellion that subsequently led to the demise of the Milton Obote regime in 1985.
