Rivers ACN To Contest Council Polls
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Rivers State says it is ready to contest the forthcoming local government election in the state.Â
The acting publicity secretary of the party, Jerry Needam said ACN in Rivers State will contest every available position at the polls from chairmanship to councillorship.
He said the party’s processes of selecting its candidates at the primaries are in progress, in compliance with the electoral laws and according to the time table released by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).Â
Needam said, notwithstanding the unfortunate outcome of the just-concluded national elections in the state, the ACN will go to the polls again on May 21, 2011 against other opponents, and is hopeful of emerging victorious, as the resolve of Rivers people for a positive change has not waned and would be better actualized in the grassroots election.
He urged Rivers electorate to continue with their overwhelming support for the party and its candidates, adding that though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made a clean sweep of all seats in the state during the national elections held in April, the ACN and other opposition parties have rejected the results and assembled their legal teams to seek redress at the tribunals to upturn the results.
