Civil Servants Abandon Offices In Zamfara

Civil servants in Gusau, Zamfara, have abandoned their offices, three weeks to the inauguration of a new government, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

At the state secretariat, only few offices were opened for business, following the outcome of the April 16 governorship elections in the state.

It will be recalled that Gov. Mamuda Shinkafi of the PDP, lost his second term bid to Alhaji Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari of the ANPP during the contest.

INEC has since issued certificates of return to the governor-elect, senators-elect and other elected officials.

A NAN check showed that some senior civil servants, particularly those who had prepared their hand-over notes had also been avoiding their offices.

NAN observed that unlike before, some workers who showed up twice a week, had developed the habit of closing before the official closing hour.

Some of the workers told NAN that they were eagerly awaiting the inauguration of the new government and what it would portend for workers.

When contacted, the state’s Head of Service, Alhaji Bello Umar Karakkai, refused to comment on the development, saying: “I will not comment on it.”
