The Indian Air Force has announced the death of Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the military chopper crash, which killed chief of defence staff Gen. Bipin Rawat.

Singh succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, the Air Force said.

“IAF is deeply saddened to inform the passing away of braveheart Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed this morning to the injuries sustained in the helicopter accident on 08 Dec 21.

“IAF offers sincere condolences and stands firmly with the bereaved family”, Indian Air Force said in a statement”.

Group Captain Varun Singh was pulled out of the wreckage of Mi-17 helicopter in Tamil Nadu last Wednesday.

He was receiving treatment at Command Hospital in Bengaluru.

India’s first chief of defence staff, Gen. Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 11 others died in the crash.
