The police have arrested the runaway housemaid who was suspected to have strangled Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, mother of former Edo Governor, Lucky Igbinedion.

The octogenarian died on Thursday 2 December. She was 85. She was buried on 10 December.

Reports said she was strangled at her Ugbor, GRA, Benin-City residence by her maid, now identified as Dominion Okoro.

After killing Maria, the suspect ransacked her house and fled with unspecified amount of money and jewellery.

It was gathered that police operatives in collaboration with some concerned individuals, arrested the suspect on Tuesday, 16 December, in Calabar, Cross River State.

She is now being detained at the Edo State Police Command headquarters in Benin.

When contacted on phone for confirmation, the Edo Police Command spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello, said he has “not been briefed by the OC”.
