Abducted Magaji Erubu of Ilorin regains freedom

Alhaji Zubair Folorunsho Erubu, a medical doctor and the Magaji Erubu of Ilorin Emirate who was abducted last Thursday has been freed Thursday.

Erubu was ambushed by gunmen in front of his residence at Ago-Oja, in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, last Thursday when he was returning from his hospital at Balogun Fulani area of Ilorin metropolis.

His abductors had reportedly demanded N60 million ransom to set him free. However, it is unclear if any ransom was paid to secure his release.

Dr Erubu is a retired permanent secretary and former physician to two-term former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki.

According to a family member, Alhaji Mohammed Erubu, the Magaji was released by his captors in the early hours of Thursday.

He added that the Magaji is now being treated in an undisclosed hospital.

His release was also confirmed by spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi.

“He has been released this morning, after days of thorough search and rescue operation directed by the commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo.

“The release was made possible with the cooperation of the victim’s family members, the Community and other security stakeholders, vigilante and hunters.

“Detailed report would be made public as soon as it is available, please,” Ajayi said in a brief statement.
