Sunshine Stars Thrash Plateau 4-1
Two goals each from Akombo Ukeyima and Atanda Shakibu gave Sunshine Stars of Akure maximum points as they thrashed Plateau United 4-1 in a Nigeria Premier League, NPL, match this evening.
The match, played at the Ijebu Ode stadium saw the gov Olusegun Mimiko boys from Ondo state scoring as early as 13th minute when Akombo’s fantastic shot beat Plateau goalkeeper, David Obiasu.
Plateau responded with a first half equaliser as George Akpabio’s 24th minute volley caught goalkeeper John Gardi off guard to leave the scoreline 1-1 at half time break.
The scanty fans at the Ijebu Ode stadium however got more to cheer when Sunshine players raised their game on reumption of play.
Barely three minutes into the second stanza, Akombo again shot Sunshine Stars into the lead with a trickish header from a pullout.
Caleb Bala and Emmanuel Odafe came close to scoring twice when Sunshine keeper missed his step mid-way into the second half but wasted the chances. Another begging chance came the way of Plateau midfielder, Longji Obadia in the 65th minute, but he also missed.
The visiting club from Jos were made to pay for their poor finishing in the end as Shakibu scored a brace in the 68th and 90th minute to seal the game for Sunshine.
