Real Madrid confirm five positive Covid-19 cases
Real Madrid have confirmed a Covid-19 outbreak at the club with Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo and assistant manager Davide Ancelotti all returning positive tests.
This follows report that Luka Modric and Marcelo tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.
Now, the total coronavirus cases at Santiago Bernabeu to seven, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with a weakened squad for his side’s last two games before the winter break.
Los Blancos are scheduled to take on Cadiz on Sunday before facing Athletic Club on Wednesday evening. A postponement seems unlikely at this stage as Real still have enough players available to fulfil the fixtures.
Ancelotti will miss Asensio and Rodrygo the most as both players have been vital to his setup this season.
Coronavirus cases are soaring across Europe due to the emergence of the easily-transmissible Omicron variant, with the Premier League being severely affected in recent weeks.
