Tinubu Tasks Elected ACN Members
National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked newly elected lawmakers on the platform of the party to ensure that party meets its goals in the nearest future.
Tinubu gave this charge today in Lagos at a retreat organised for the lawmakers both at the national and state levels.
The former governor of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, reminded the lawmakers that they have a huge task before them as the challenges facing the country are enormous.
Tinubu who said he has every cause to be happy about the success recorded by the party in the recently concluded elections, adding that the elected officials should rise up to the challenge of providing superlative governance in the state they control since the privilege of holding the people’s mandate is a sacred trust.
“It cannot be squandered on mindless pleasure or reckless self-seeking. Achieving this objective will demand from our public office holders the most strenuous exertion of your physical, mental, psychological and moral resources to actualise the vision of the party and justify the trust of the people.
“A progressive government must therefore necessarily place premium on poverty alleviation and rapid economic growth for equitable prosperity as its central thrust. This will necessarily imply massive investment in critical policies,†he said. The critical policies, Tinubu said, include affordable and qualitative education for all, accessible and qualitative health care for all, infrastructure renewal and job creation in critical economic sector.
A progressive government, he said, should provide micro credit scheme, legal services for the indigent persons and promote true federalism.
Other participants at the retreat included National Chairman of ACN, Chief Bisi Akande, National Vice Chairman, Boss Mustapha, Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji and Wale Oshun.
