The alternative singer, who released the original version of the album last September, spoke in a chat with HipTV.

Mavin Records artiste, John Ighodaro, popularly known as Johnny Drille has announced that he will be putting out a deluxe edition of his ‘Before We Fall Asleep (BWFA)’ album.

The alternative singer, who released the original version of the album last September, spoke in a chat with HipTV.

Drille also hinted on forthcoming collaborations, his ‘BWFA’ deluxe, and an acoustic version of the body of work.

“There’s a deluxe version coming up that has more surprises. It’s different from any project out there. There’s an acoustic version but we’ll see. Collaborations, there’s so much I want to talk about but can’t really say,” he said.

Re-defining his genre of music, Drille added: “The genre I perform is tricky, especially here because we tend to lump a lot of genres into one that we call alternative But, at my core, I’m a folk singer.

“Here, it’s called alternative. There’s a lot of fusion and, to be honest, genres are blurring a lot. In fact, what we currently call Afrobeats is kinda like R&B. The fusion happening makes genre classification a bit more tricky.”

Drille started his journey in the music industry after he participated as a contestant in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013.

In 2015, he came through with a cover of ‘Awww’ by Dija, Nigerian singer, who later turned into a label mate.

His sound caught the attention of Don Jazzy, Mavin Records boss, and he signed with the foremost label in 2017.

The 31-year-old singer has since released numerous singles that turned out to be successful with massive reception.
