OSUN Varsity Holds Maiden Convocation

Six years after its establishment, the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), held its first convocation ceremony last Saturday. The graduating students were from five of the university’s eight faculties with nine students bagging first-class, 168, second-class upper; 183, second-class lower and 11, third-class.

The convocation speech was delivered by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the state governor, who congratulated the graduating students, their parents and the institution on the wonderful occasion of passing out after completing the mandatory period of studying in different disciplines and being found worthy in learning and character.

To assist the students, Professor Sola Akinrinade, the university’s vice chancellor, stated that the institution’s Graduate Support Office was established a few months ago to coordinate support for its alumni. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, was conferred with a honorary Doctor of Letters degree by the university, which received its licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 21 December, 2006, having been conceived by the immediate past administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and nurtured by a team led by the former Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Peter Okebukola.
