Gov. Amaechi Signs LG Amendment Law

 Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has signed into law the Local Government Amendment Bill No. 7 of 2011.

 The law, which increases the number of Commissioners in the Local Government Service Commission, is expected to provide more impetus into the running of the Local Government system as well as provide for extensive consultation on matters of Local Government Administration.

Governor Amaechi,who signed the bill into law on Saturday at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt, said the state government would make all appointments as soon as possible and in accordance with the law and thanked members of the House for the passage of the bill.

 “I assure you we will make all the appointments in no distant time to enable the officers to function effectively,” he said.

 Earlier, the Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly Hon Chidi Lloyd had explained that the law would enhance the performance of the Local Government Service Commission.
