Table Tennis: Trials Excite Soares
Ibrahim Soares has expressed happiness that he is one of the athletes invited for the trials of the Para\Able Table Tennis players for the 10th All Africa Games.
The trials will hold from 15-18, June at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State.15 male and 10 female players will be selected for disable, while 10 male and 10 female able tennis players will be selected for the camping which commences immediately after trials.
Soares told P.M.Sports that he will not only give his best in the trials but assured he would be selected for the final screening. Soares who represented Ogun State at the just concluded Para table tennis tourney in Lagos boasted that he will make it to the All Africa Games.
“I am not going for trials for fun of it. I want to make it to the All Africa Games. My ambition in life is to win gold medal for my country at the international event. I want to thank the organisers for inviting me for the trials in Ibadan,†he said.
Soares disclosed that he will begin to engage in series of competitions to keep him fit ahead of the trials, “as it will be a serious setback if I fail to make it to the All Africa Games,†he said.
Secretary General of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Segun Oguntade, said all the invited athletes will be responsible for their travel expenses and accommodation in Ibadan during trials
