ASUU CRUTECH Angry Over Non Fulfillment Of Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the Cross River State University of Technology has expressed anger with the Federal Government over its failure to implement the 2009 agreement with the union.

In release signed by the chairman of the union, Dr Nsing Ogar, the union berated the Federal Government for sending professors in the universities on retirement before they attained  the statutory age of 70 years.

“Academics of this cadre need to remain longer in the system to produce more capable hands to serve the university system,” the union declared.

The union in the release frowned at the establishment of universities without adequate holders of doctorate degrees to function as teachers. “Universities are being established without the needed manpower (PhD) to serve them,” said the union.

The union complained about what it calls “heavy tax burden” on teachers in the Cross River State University of Technology and accordingly called on the Cross River  State Government to reduce the tax burden as the union was prepared to employ everything in its arsenal to ensure that the right thing is done.“

The astronomical tax deductions paid by ASUU staff are not obtainable anywhere else in the country,” the union lamented.
