Agency Report

Russia has launched hypersonic missiles aka “Kinzal” against Ukraine last week, according to CNN.

Experts say hypersonic missiles’ low trajectory and their high speed and manoeuvrability make them difficult for America’s missile defence satellites and radars to detect.

Meanwhile, this is the first time such missiles are used in combat.

Hypersonic missiles travel five times the speed of sound and after launch, they fly into space, but then come down and fly on a flight path similar to an aeroplane.

CNN quoted some U.S Defence officers saying that President Vladimir Putin’s government launched those missiles on Ukraine last week.

However, Russia launched the missiles to test the weapons and also send a message to the US and its allies about Russian capabilities, they said.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the use of the missiles on Saturday, saying it was launched against a military ammunition warehouse in western Ukraine on Friday.

The ministry said the hypersonic missiles destroyed the structure in the Ukrainian village of Delyatin.

The defence ministry claimed it used its hypersonic “Kinzhal” missiles.

“On March 18, the Kinzhal aviation missile system, with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse of missiles and aviation ammunition of Ukrainian troops in the village of Delyatin, Ivano-Frankivsk region,” the ministry said.
