I Did Not Send Thugs To Assault Prof. —Uchegbulam
A former Nigerian Football Association top official, Chief Amanze Uchegbulam, has denied alleged involvement in the reported assault on professor Achike Anamdi.
Two suspects, Atanda Oke, and Hassan Adelabi were charged to court for allegedly assaulting Professor Anamdi over the removal of Chief Uchegbulam’s street name sign post at Orisunbare, Shasha area of Lagos State allegedly by Anamdi.
The street was reportedly bearing the professor’s name before Uchegbulam claimed that he got approval from the government to change to the name. While denying any involvement in the attack on the professor, Chief Uchegbulam told P.M.NEWSz that when the incident happened he was not in Lagos State and did not ask anybody to attack the professor.
He said he cannot assault Anamdi because he had not met him before, neither did he ask anybody to attack him.
On the street name, which is now the bone of contention, Uchegbulam said that he followed due process to get approval from the local government.
He said that the local government declared the street name open and gave notice to that effect.
He said he applied and paid the mandatory fee before the approval was given to him.
He stated that he has not met the professor in his life except at the office of the Divisional Police Officer at Idimu where he was invited by the police and he made clarification on how he got approval to name the street after himself.
Chief Uchegbulam said that there was no way he could have hired thugs or asked anybody to assault the professor because the matter was not his, but that of the local government that gave him the approval to name the street after himself.
