17 Banks Comply With CBN Directive
About 17 banks have complied with the CBN directive on 10-digit account numbering, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The banks that have complied with the directive include Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank International, First City Monument Bank, Skye Bank, Diamond Bank, Bank PHB, Afribank and Ecobank.
Others are Stanbic-IBTC, Sterling Bank, Oceanic Bank International, Unity Bank, Wema Bank, Finbank, Intercontinental Bank, Access Bank, and Fidelity Bank.
Mr. Kenny Alliu, Head of Corporate Affairs in First Monument Bank, said that the bank had complied since May.
Alliu said that the bank did not encounter much challenges in complying with the directive.
An official of the bank, who pleaded anonymity, however, said that customers of the banks had initial problems in drawing funds from the ATM machines.
NAN reports that some banks that have not complied include United Bank for Africa, Sterling Bank, Spring Bank, First Bank and Union Bank.
Mr. Francis Barde, Head of Corporate Affairs in Union Bank, said that the bank was in the process of doing data capturing of its customers ahead of the July 1 deadline.
Barde said that the bank was taking its time so as not to make mistakes.
