Avia, who was elected in February, was on a thank you tour of his constituency, when he was attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen along Twin Hill, Miango Road, his media directorate said.

Newly elected House of Representatives member, representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency Musa Agah Avia escaped a deadly ambush by gunmen on Tuesday night.

But two PDP leaders in his convoy, were not so lucky. They were killed by the gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Those killed were the PDP Chairman Kimakpa Ward, simply identified as Timothy and the Women Leader, not identified.

They were riding on motorcycles when they were ambushed.

“The member was returning from Jebbu Bassa after a successful Thank You Tour across the 4 wards of Rukuba Chiefdom.

“The member was with his wife, two children, Personal Assistant and driver. However, the car was battered and shattered with gunshot bullets.

“Also part of his entourage were Hon. Hwenke Tuhu, former Majority Leader Bassa Local Government Legislative Arm and others in the car who equally survived the ambush.

A statement signed by the National Secretary of Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, also confirmed the attack.

“Although they all escaped unhurt the car was battered with gunshot bullets as the driver against all odds bravely manoeuvred the vehicle amidst the sporadic shooting by the attackers.

Security agencies have not reacted to the incident which occurred near the spot where some people were killed recently during a cultural festival in the chiefdom.
