Finidi Tips Eagles For Nations Cup
Former Nigerian winger, Finidi George has allayed fears over Nigeria’s qualification for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The two-time African champions trailed three points behind fellow West African group leaders, Guinea with 10 points, and two games to wrap up the qualifiers.
The group leader qualifies automatically for the biennial football showpiece to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Finidi, who was among the galaxy of stars that graced Kanu Nwankwo’s testimonial game in Lagos last weekend told SuperSport.com that Nigeria have once been on a similar tight path but have gone ahead to qualify at the end of the day. He opined that Eagles will qualify for the continental football fiesta.
“We have been in a situation like this before. Do you remember the 2002 World Cup? We were in a very tight situation like this but at the end of the day we qualified for the World Cup. We need to believe in our team; hopefully, they will make us proud.â€
The former Real Betis star, who said Nigerians should not put unnecessary pressure on the coach Samson Siasia’s Super Eagles, hinted that the team will bounce back.
