Ekpo Leads Boxers To Honour Adeboye
Nigeria’s Light Heavyweight Champion, Isaac Ekpo will lead other professional boxers to honour the late President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, NBB of C, when he confronts Idowu Adebowale in one of the bouts lined up for the deceased.
The event holds 3 July at Rowe Park, Herbert Macaulay Way, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos, at 3 p.m.
Veteran boxing promoter and Chairman of the NBBofC’s boxing Promotions Committee, Mr. Demola Omotoso said the Board of the NBBof C just can’t afford not to encourage its licensed boxers. Considering the dearth of promotions/promoters, he added that they are taking this proactive step to promote with the belief that it will encourage promoters to put their acts together. It will also give the professional boxers the hope of better days ahead.
Another member of the NBBofC Promotion Committee, Comrade Victor John added that the action-packed boxing extravaganza will parade two national titles in the National Bantamweight title fight between Akeem Muri and Sheriff Kareem, which is the main bout. The second title defence will be between National Lightweight champion Prince Nurudeen versus Akeem Segun and other supporting bouts.
The other supporting bouts are Policeman Sule Olagbade versus Lateef Alabi in a Six Round Welterweight challenge, all the way from D. Rovans Boxing Club in Ibadan, Oyo State, Akeem Dodo will exchange punches with Pelumi Shonubi in the Welterweight category.
The Featherweight category will feature Dare Oyewole taking on Waheed Usman in a Six-Round challenge. Another police professional boxer Sadiq Ahmed will be up against national Light Welterweight champion, Sunday Ajayi in an Eight-Round encounter and the last bout will be between Malik Isiaka and Jamiu Ese Anobi also in the Light Welterweight category.
The NBB of C Promotions Committee was inaugurated in May by the President, Dr. Godwin Kanu, other members of the committee are Mr. Folorunsho Jacobs, Chairman of the referee association, Mr. Tony Legson, Treasurer of the Board/member of the referee Association and Mr. Remi Aboderin Secretary General of the Boxing Body.
