#EkitiDecides: We expect credible, peaceful election – Residents

Tight security for Ekiti election

With less that 24 hours to the commencement of the 18 June, 2022 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, residents have expressed optimism for a free and credible election.

Ado Ekiti, the state capital, could be best described agog, in readiness for the crucial gubernatorial election.

Some residents who spoke to our Correspondent, expressed their willingness and readiness to cast their ballots for their respective candidates.

John Oga, a commercial motorcycle rider and an indigene of Benue State, who resident in Ado Ekiti, said he is prepared to vote in the election.

“I am a native of Benue State, but live and earn my daily bread in Ekiti State, and so, I must exercise my civic right. I have my voter card with me always.

“I pray for a peaceful election, because, violence will make living more difficult for everyone,” he said.

Another resident who gave his name simply as Aladelusi, said he is not oblivious of the violence that has heated up the polity in recent times. Nonetheless, he is praying for a hitch-free election.

According to him, “I am aware that the polity was heated up recently, which claimed at least, a life. However, we must pray that the election go peaceful.

“The election is not worth the blood of anyone. We urge the candidates to talk to their supporter to calm down. Election will come and go, but we will remain as brothers and sisters forever.

“One thing is sure: we will come out on Saturday to elect our leaders, it is our civic responsibility,” the retiree added.

As at the time of filing this report, every nook and corner of Ado Ekiti is calm, with residents going about their individual duties peacefully. The same is reported in all other local government areas of the State.
