The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti Sector Command, has announced the temporary closure of Iwaraja-Ado Road to allow for its rehabilitation.
The Ekiti Sector Commander, Mr. Olusola Joseph, announced this in a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer, Mr Taiwo Ojo, in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
According to him, there will be total blockage for heavy-duty trucks at the Iwaraja junction, while smaller vehicles will be allowed to pass through Iwaraja/Efon/Ilesha/Efon route.
The sector commander said the temporary closure, which would last for two weeks would allow for the rehabilitation of the road stretching between the Igede-Ekiti and Efon-Alaaye portions of the road.
He said the blockage would commence from Tuesday, Sept. 20.
“Vehicles coming from Ado-Ekiti to Ibadan or Lagos should divert at Igede-Ekiti and follow Igede-Igbara Odo-Igbara Oke-Akure, while those coming to Ado should take Efon-Okemesi-Ijero-Ido-Ado-Ekiti.
“Vehicles coming through Ifaki-Ekiti should divert at Ifaki-Ekiti junction and follow Ifaki-Ido-Ijero-Ikoro-Okemesi-Efon Alaaye.
“This is only for smaller vehicles as reported by the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the road,” Joseph said.
FRSC advised the general public of the risk associated with the Efon-Ikogosi route, saying it was hilly with slopes, bends, and encroachment of thick vegetation into the road, making it dangerous and prone to road traffic crashes.
It explained that the possible and safe route, for now, is Efon-Okemesi, Ifaki-Ijero-Okemesi-Iwaraja/Ilesha.
